Roll Deep feel strongly about the key issues facing them today. And there are few more important issues than gun crime in the black community. Roll Deep have been affected by it, know victims of it, and know perpetrators of it. It's the reality of their surroundings, and where they're from.
As a result, Roll Deep are pushing more conscientious messages in their music. Their latest track “Badman” is all about the consequences of gun culture on people's lives, the cycle of violence it promotes and the grim reality of going to prison. It's a powerful warning to anyone who thinks carrying a gun is glamorous.

My brother was shot. Believe me it doesn't affect you until someone you really know well dies. Then it messes you up/ It messes up whole families - they're never going to see that person again. In five minutes of rage a gunman can deprive a whole family and distress a whole community. How can anyone live with that for a lifetime?
We're a beautiful people and every one of us respresents that beauty. But these shootings say that we are worth nothing. Put the guns down - be proud. We've got so much to give - in business, the arts, writing, sport, music - a culture to be proud of. We all care about the future of our young people and it takes a community to raise a child.
Let's do something positive and stop this type of crime ruining young lives.
