Thanks to the hard work undertaken by the Independent Advisory Group and Trident, and the conscientious help provided by members of the community, more criminals are behind bars and more families can expect to see justice.
However, there are still cases that remain unsolved and this is where you can help us.
Trident not only target criminals for gun crime. Detectives will look to prosecute criminals for any crimes they are involved in, often taking away criminals money and assets, using the Proceeds of Crime Act.
Billy Cox Murder - £20,000 reward offered
The Metropolitan Police are offering a £20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those who murdered 15 year old Billy Cox on Valentine's day last year.
At approx. 15.30hrs on Wednesday 14th February 2007, Billy Cox was at home in Fenwick Place, Clapham SW9 with person(s) unknown.
His younger sister was returning to the address when she heard a 'bang'. She went in and found her brother dying from a gunshot wound to the chest. A friend turned up at the premises, and helped her to give first aid. The ambulance service attended and treated Billy, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Jason Greene murder
On the 17.09.08 Christopher TOUSSANT-COLLINS [21/8/87 - 19 yrs] of Derwent Rise, West Hendon was sentenced to life imprisonment at Central Criminal Court to serve a minimum of 25 years for the murder of Jason Greene, a 29 year old father of two, in Kenton, Middlesex on 18.7.06.
Detective Chief Inspector Scott Wilson, Trident said:
"This was a callous and calculated attack, committed in front of two young children with no concern whatsoever for their safety. This verdict shows the determination of Trident to apprehend and convict those responsible for gun crime and who have a total disregard for life.
I would like to thank the community whose contribution by coming forward and providing information has been pivotal in this investigation and led to this conviction."
Michael Dosunmu murder
On 17.06.08 a senior MPS officer called for witnesses to put their faith in the police and courts as two young men were found guilty of murdering 15 year old Michael Dosunmu in Diamond Street, Peckham in February last year [2007].
During the trial of Mohammed Sannoh [aged 19] and Abdi Omar Noor [aged 22], both from the Peckham area, six witnesses gave evidence under special measures. In all cases, they were anonymous and protected by screens as they spoke; three had their voices modulated so they could not be recognised.
Detective Superintendent Gary Richardson, Trident said:
"This murder was carried out in the manner of a cold blooded execution; the victim was an innocent boy. His death stunned the community, especially coming in the wake of two other teenagers who died in violent circumstances (James Andre Smartt Ford and Javarie Crighton).
"We pay tribute to Michael's family who have reacted to this violent act with great dignity and also those members of the community in Peckham, and elsewhere, who have come forward and shown that they are not prepared to see our streets taken over by people of violence.
"Their bravery has helped to bring justice to one grieving family. I am appealing today to anyone who can help us bring that same justice to the families of James Andre Smartt Ford and Billy Cox.
"Tell us what you know; we will protect you."
Magda Pniewska Murder
On the 23.06.08 17 year old Armel Gnango was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Magda Pniewska [aged 26] in John Williams Close, SE14 on 2nd October 2007, with a recommendation he serve a minimum term of 20 years.
Magda Pniewska was walking up a flight of stairs in a car park outside Stunell House, in John Williams Close SE14, just after 6.00 pm on 2.10.07 when she became a victim.
She had just finished a day's work as a carer at a nearby home for the elderly and done some shopping. She had two carrier bags and was on the phone to her sister in Poland and does not appear to have noticed she was walking towards a gunman.
Her sister Elzbieta told the court she heard some shots in the background and asked Magda what was going on; there was a silence and then as another shot rang out, Magda gave a soft sigh or moan and then she was silent.
Emergency services worked on Magda at the scene and she was taken to Kings College Hospital but was pronounced dead at 7.41 pm that night.
